For this photography assignment we were instructed to take pictures as close as possible to get the best outcome. Due to the magnified textures of the photo it makes an ordinary object more difficult to recognize. The main part of this assignment was to crop the image in order to get the best possible outcome. The most difficult part was getting the camera to focus and get as close as possible to the object in order to get a nice textured photo. Overall this assignment was a cool experiment and allowed me to get creative with the crops of my photos.

For this Assignment I decided to do Macro Photography. This is usually to take closer shots of objects, nature, etc. and to show their details and textures. At the start I had some troubles of not knowing what to take pictures of but in the end I enjoyed this assignment a lot.

For the Dolch Sight Words assignment we worked in a group of 4. There was a total of 95 words which we divided. Each of us received a list of words that we had to capture. There were a few words that were challenging to find, for example, robin, boat, cow, farm and a lot more. To find most of these photos, it required going out. This assignment was also difficult because of communication. It took us weeks to collect the photos but during that time, we also enjoyed the hunt for all the words.

For this assignment, we were given a task to take pictures of specific sight words. We were in a group of 4, and we each divided the 95 words among us. Some words were quite challenging as it was hard to find. Such as robin, farm, Santa Claus, and many more. This required us to search around and use our creativity into finding ways of taking the given sight word. Some of us went to grocery stores, malls, and places out of school just to find the words. It took us quite the time, but we managed to find them and overall it was a fun project to participate in.

Alphabet Assignment

For this second assignement for the term, we were given a fun task to shoot the alphabet around our enviornment.  It ws both and stressful looking for the first 13 letter of the alphabet around me. I had to be creative on some of them  and took some items which i made look like a letter. The assignment also made me look at thingys and generally everthing around me from diffirent angles and find which letter is present. The assignment would have been one of my favorites this year, not because i used he 85mm but that this assignment forced me to look at diffirent propectives of view, i think that everytime i go out now its like a scavenger hunt looking at establishments, things that resemble a letter.

My Family Portraits

I picture my family as a computer. My dad, he is the software that powers the whole family. He makes sure the computer functions properly and updates the system once in a while, just how he takes us on vacation during the summer. He makes sure we have what we need and doesn’t give up just for his family. If it weren’t for the software, the computer would break down and the family would be a total mess. My mom would be the keyboard. She teaches us valuable lessons at home and expects us to behave respectively, just as the keyboard projects the words we type. If she didn’t teach us lessons, we wouldn’t know how to react to certain situations. As for the computer, if there is no keyboard, words wouldn’t be typed just as lessons won’t be taught. Lastly, my brother would be the accessories. He is there to help out a bit but does not contribute as much as the parents, just like the chargers.

The Dolch Sight Words assignment required us to capture a sum of 95 nouns and in order to allow for efficiency, our class was split into groups. We initially decided to divide the words based on the columns they were categorized in - Haya chose to do the first column, Kiana, the second, Christine the third and Maegan, the last. Although, we found that taking photos based on what was personally accessible to us was best. Needles to say, some of the words were definitely out of reach such as snow at this time of year, sheep, cow, farmer and horse. Therefore, we had to resort to another perception of these words and took some photos of videos and picture books containing these nouns. After a series of trips to the grocery store, sorting through past images and multiple scavenger hunts, we managed to acquire a collection of photos of the given nouns.

We, as a group, were assigned to take pictures of specific sight words. In the start we decided to split the 95 sight words into 4 since there were 4 of us in the group. There were many challenging words to do such as party, robin, squirrel, game, and many more. Some of us went to places such as grocery stores and museums to find specific words. In the span of about 3 weeks, we manage to collect all the sight words and the end product was worth it.

This new assignment is called macro. This lets you enhance the value of nature and objects around you. A normal concurring everyday item may seem normal but may have some unique details and texture. This type of photography allows us to easily see the detail of objects we photograph. We were told to put the focus on manual since the cameras couldn't fully focus on their own. The outcome of these pictures turned out amazing, if you had the right object with the right texture to
capture. This shows how beautiful photography can get and capture the neat texture of an object.

My Family Portraits
I like to see my family as a a really long car ride which first began when my parents sealed the deal in holy matrimony, and had my sister and I. There are usually 7 phases in a long road trip. Initially everything goes super smooth. The air inside the car is nice and cool and everyone is filled to the brim with joy for what the journey will yield. After the first 5 hours this would be know as the tired phase. The driver starts getting restless, everyone feels the life being drained from them, and the air feels a lot hotter. After the 7th hour this is where the road gets bumpy. We make a lot of mistakes on the way spilling drinks and ruining the car and eventually chaos spreads. Then we have the super steep uphill where our family bond is truly tested by a heartbreaking moment. This is the breaking point for most cars. After enduring the hardest part and finally reaching the top, this is when the downhill slope begins. Everything settles down and the car starts gaining momentum. This is when my sister can start helping my parents financially and where they can start to rest more. Then it's the home stretch when my parents will be close to retirement and I will almost be finished school. Finally we have the final destination where my sister and I will be independent and able to take care of our parents during retirement.

This was the second assignment i decided to for our term 3 in GCT. This assignment asked for photography of the alphabet. The photos of the letters can be found either in different scenery or different places in nature. The only exception in the assignment was you aren't able to make the letters yourself. I did struggle at points of the assignment having trouble with some of the letters, but i also decided to ask someone to be my partner, so it would be easier on me and them. We split the amount of letters each of us had to do to 13 letters each, but even then it was still kinda hard to finish. I struggled on the letters R and S and found it extremely hard to find the letters. Overall i also enjoyed this project, because of it's straight forward concept and the idea of walking around anywhere i go to find letters.

This assignment is called Macro Photography. It gave us an opportunity to take pictures of subjects, figures, actions, at a closer view capturing its fine textures. We as a class were required to use manual focus for our camera’s auto focus was not designated to be used for this style of photography. Doing this assignment opened up my eyes to a whole new perspective of photography. I learned that there can be a beauty in something small or enlarged, or even both. I really enjoyed this assignment for I have already been doing this type of photography at a young age before even knowing how to use a camera to its full potential. If I were asked to do this assignment again I’d definitely do it and create more variety in pictures.

I needed to focus on the details of every object and I need to look closely to every detail. It was kind of difficult at first but then i got used to it and had fun. i had fun looking for the small details of the object that i was taking picture of

Alphabet Assingment required me to seek for letters that weren't man made. This was one of the most difficult pieces in term 3 and I especially struggled with finding letters like K, Q, Z, Y and more. Following that, we were also required to take a photo of an everyday object corresponding to the letters. This project allowed me to look at everyday objects precisely to see if they shape out a letter. The project also granted me to use previous techniques like the ones in composition. Overall it was adventurous trying to find the missing letters.

For this assignment, I chose to do macro photography. I chose this because I wanted to capture up close photos that show small details. I used different kinds of lenses and the focus was on manually. I had to focus it myself to get the picture I wanted. Throughout this entire assignment, I had a lot of fun because I really had to get close to the subject to capture a good photo. For one of the photos, I had a photo where there was a bee on a flower and I had to be real careful since I didn't want to get stung by the bee.

I chose macro photography as my second assignment in term 3. The goal for this assignment was to produce small objects as if they were larger than their life-size.  With this style of photography, I was able to have a lot of control over my settings which allowed me to really get a good understanding of all the camera functions as I always had to adjust to capture the optimal photo.

This assignment is called the "Macro Photography Assignment". The intent was to take pictures at a very minuscule scale and enlarge regular size items to create a new perspective for the image.
The beginning of the assignment was difficult for me when getting close to the photo I wanted it would blur. Once learning to use the reverse lens it helped tremendously as I could take shots clearly at a close range. The technique I used was rocking back and forth as I adjusted the lens, I watched multiple you tube videos to help configure my photos. Overall, I enjoyed this assignment and would love to do it again.

This type of technique shows a slightly larger subject of the photograph. Fact: Macro comes from the Greek word Makros meaning large. This assignment was quite difficult to work with. It was frustrating to focus on a part of the subject. Many pictures were taken on subjects to get it focused. Lots of time was used to hopefully put all of this together and tried my best to finish it up in time. I look forward to using this technique in the future as I take my photography skills with me.

ALPHABET ASSIGNMENT
My second assignment of term 3 was the Alphabet Assignment. Our task was to walk around and take pictures of what appears to be a letter by examining carefully. The goal was to find letters outside in the environment, not self-made or found on a sign. I didn't get the opportunity to explore more of Winnipeg's nature and environment but it was still quite fun and adventurous. This project took way more time than I expected, but this work of art shouldn't be rushed. It takes time and careful eyes to examine a figure from a unique subject. Overall, I found this assignment adventurous but also frustrating as it took time and that I was not exposed to more of the environment. Next time if I do this assignment again or another that's similar, I will explore more of Winnipeg and remember to take my phone out if there are interesting and unique photos.

I chose to do this assignment in GCT for term 3, we were assigned to take pictures from very close up angles. We only could use cameras and were unable to use our phones for this project, because our phone cameras could easily take the photos needed for the assignment. Our cameras were set up on manual focus to learn how to take theses photos manually. I really enjoyed this project, because i was very interested in the close up shots and really wanted to take these types of photos myself. I always enjoy walking around the school or walking around anywhere taking pictures for my GCT assignments. Looking around places and noticing the different types of pictures i could take for my projects.

Macro photography is one of our assignments. It is usually just extreme -close ups of objects where the size of the subject in the photograph is greater than that of a life size. In this type of photography, most subjects such as small objects and insects are used. Instead of using auto focus, we instead had to use manual focus so that we would have more control over how the picture would turn out. I found out that lenses such as 50mm to 200mm are great lenses, unfortunately i could only get my hands on a 55mm lens. the assignment was quite fun and challenging at the same time.

For this project i decided to do stop motion. I never really had experience shooting stop motion and dont personally like movies created from stop motion. But i really wanted to try something new and fun to do. Although it was very time consuming taking a picture every time you move your subject and getting your sd card filled with 500 images that look very similar the overall result is pretty entertaining. I also had to use a new software called Movie Maker which i heard before but never used. I used that to piece and organize my images and change the duration of the video. There was suppose to be another clip put in of cards but i am still currently having trouble with exporting it.

For this assignment, we were told to choose one of the projects we were shown. I chose the Alphabet Photography because I expected it to be easy but in fact, it wasn't at all and it was very time-consuming. We were required to take photos of the 26 letters in the alphabet in nature, signs, shapes, and our everyday items. It forced me to be creative and to have a sharp eye just so that I could picture the different letters of the alphabet. Finding a few letters were easier than other letters in the alphabet but I still ended up with all of the letters for this project. I really had quite an adventure looking for these letters and I enjoyed looking for them.

This assignment we were required to take pictures of figures, shapes, structures, and other things that look like a letter from the alphabet. Easier said then done. It was very time consuming in my opinion, because I wasn't able to find things that look like letters.  We are also required to have creativity and being more open to an idea such as a letter looking like something. In my experience, it required me to look beyond things for what they were and make out letters. I didn't realize how many everyday structures, objects, and other things can look like letters. They turned out great in my opinion, and worth the time I spent. I definetly enjoyed this assignment, and I assume others did aswell.

In the last term of school, the GCT class has gotten a few assignments and the students got to pick one of those multiple assignments. The one I had chosen was Macro Photography. We were given an assignment to complete (of our choice). I chose Macro Photography, which creates quite interesting photos that give people another view on certain objects. I included 10 macro photography photos in my slide deck. Macro photography involves being completely zoomed in on your subject whilst using manual-focus (so that auto-focus won't make your photos blurry) which allows me to adjust the amount of focus and where my camera should be focusing.

Here is my slide deck for Macro Photography.

Macro Photography is the art of taking close up pictures that show details unable to be seen with the human eye. It gives us a glimpse of the small world. I selected Macro Photography as my first assingment in term 3. It was a bit frustrating to focus on a small part of the subject but worth the time since the pictures turned out wonderful. Although simultaneously, it was fun because I had series of objects that I wanted to see up close. In general, I enjoyed doing Macro Photography despite the time it took for some images to focus. I'm looking forward to incorporate the new concepts I've learned later on in my life.

My Top 10 Tips for Macro Photography
1) When taking a macro, you should pay attention to the lighting. Personally I found it best to have your light source directly at your subject.
2) It's okay if your image isn't that close to the subject because you can always crop it in photo shop.
3) Use a diffuser. If you don't know what a diffuser, its anything white the makes your light source bigger. If you're cheap like me, I just used a piece of white paper.
4) The background doesn't matter if you're using a high aperture since the background will blur anyways.
5) Make sure you're camera is on burst mode since not all pictures are gonna be focused.
6) Try to get on the same level as your subject, it makes the picture more interesting.
7) Some interesting photos to take are of insects, bugs, flowers, plants, abstract images, and fruits.
8) To get the most out of available depth of field, select a small aperture like f/16 or even f/22.
9) If your subject is not focusing dont move the camera, move the subject.
10) Explore unusual angles, the picture doesn't always have to be on top of your subject

For our first GCT assignment we needed to choose what we wanted to do between multiple different assignments. Out of all the assignments, I chose to do "Macro Photography". The task for this was to create a slide deck of pictures that have been completely zoomed in. When taking Macro Photography you want to have manual focus ON. The manual focus lets the photographer take a crisper and better focused picture.

Hello again! Here is my first assignment for term three of my GCT course. This is called the Alphabet Photography. Our focus was to find all 26 letters of the alphabet in nature, on man-made signs or is created from everyday things. It was quite difficult to find the letters, but in the end, it was an adventure. I was actually looking forward to doing this after seeing grade 9s from the previous years post their photographs on Instagram. I felt inspired by them so I decided to do this as my first assignment of the third term. My final process for this assignment does not look as interesting but at least it was worth giving my best effort to completion.

In GCT we were given a variety of assignments. I chose to tackle alphabet photography as my first assignment. Alphabet photography consists of 2 main components; capturing letters within the environment, and manipulating the environment to create letters. Although they may be hidden and unnoticed, letters surround us everywhere in our everyday life. Whether it is our jeans we are wearing forming "y", the banana we are about to eat creating a 'c', or the fruit loops in our bowls swirling into an "a". The number of letters that surrounds us is endless. The second part of alphabet photography is manipulation. We are able to create any letter of our choosing with the right items and positions. For example, placing sticky notes to make 'n', using dominos to form "k", or even placing blueberries in oatmeal to create "r"!

Me and Haya went to the Forks and the Human Rights Museum to search the alphabet. I realized finding letters like "g, q" were very hard.        The topic of this assignment was Alphabet Photography. Alphabet photography captures a letter in the alphabet naturally or in signs. We were given the option to work individually or in pairs, I chose to work with Yana. For this assignment Yana and I took pictures during our class time in school and during the spring break outside of school. We walked around the Forks with other classmates who worked on the same assignment.  Keeping an eye out for one of the 26 letters in the alphabet was an interesting experience that kept us aware of our surroundings. When we finished gathering two of each letter, we chose the one we thought was best to use. We then cropped our photos and created a slide containing the whole alphabet.

Alphabet Assignment by Maegan

April 09, 2019 maegan ilagan 0 Comments

It is astonishing how nature is able to replicate other aspects of nature and with the right creative eye, we are able to identify them all around us. The Alphabet Photography Assignment requires us to identify and capture the letters of the alphabet in the environment or in already made structures. During spring break, I came along with a group of friends to stroll around the Canadian Museum of Human Rights, The Forks and Downtown Winnipeg wherein we took most of our photos. To some degree, this assignment has proven to be more complex than our previous assignments. Several factors that we have separately focused on in other assignments have been combined in this one assignment in order to create a satisfactory output. Such factors to consider prior to and while capturing the photos were the lighting, angle, composition and  accuracy of the objects in relation to the letter. Additionally, we were required to take pictures of objects that start with each corresponding letter of the alphabet. I approached this second part a bit differently as I used a similar technique for most of  my photos as I played with using light, shadows and negative space. This in turn had created a cohesive appearance to a large portion of my photographs. Overall, this assignment was a great opportunity for us to showcase everything we had learned in our GCT class up to date while making use of our creative senses.

MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY
This is my first assignment of term 3 and it was about Macro Photography. Our objective was to take pictures up close to make it appear bigger than it's normal life-size. Macro is usually taken from small objects or living organisms such as insects as they are quite small and provide unique features. When taking Macro photos, I use manual focus rather than autofocus as it enables the ability to control and adjust the focus of the object and its surrounding. Lenses that go pretty well with Macro Photography are 50mm to 200mm but I prefer 50mm as it was much easier to take pictures of small objects that fit into the picture. Unfortunately, there weren't any flowers or insects to take pictures of due to the cold conditions. It would've been more fun and interesting to take pictures of nature with the flowers and insects alongside but there was no chance of it happening, sadly. Despite not being able to take pictures of the beautiful flowers with insects, this was still a fun project as it was a different style of photography and was pretty interesting.

In this assignment we worked on Macro photography. Macro photography is extreme close up of small objects or normal objects in which the size of the object in the photograph is greater than life size. Usually living organisms or small objects are used to take macro photos but anything object is good to be used. Instead of auto focus, macro uses manual focus where get to control the focus of the object and the background. Some good lenses for macro photography are 50mm to 200mm. But i prefer 50mm because it was much easier for me take pictures of the small object and fit it into the picture. This assignment was very fun to do because i learned a new style of photography and new trick to take pictures

I got to visit many places such as Downtown and the Human Rights Museum, which made this assignment more exciting. This part of the assignment was the most simplistic and that is where I tried some photography skills that I have learned so far. Overall, I found that this assignment was an adventurous one and got me to open up and take pictures on how I want to take them and to refer to photography skills I have already learned.

We played with different kinds of lenses for portrait pictures with different backgrounds. In this project, we got introduced to photoshop and learned how to use it by watching videos online and experimenting with it. This project was by far my favourite because we got to play with photoshop more and learned how to use it.

Hello again! The focus of this assignment was on double exposure. Double exposure is a technique where you can create stunning images. Two photographs are put together to make a whole new photograph. We were assigned to practice on 3 portraits using double exposure then create a final one. It is needed to have a five sentence explanation on why we have chosen the portrait or the background we have used. This assignment gave me another opportunity to experience Adobe Photoshop C6 once again. Using Photoshop can can create a huge change to an image. I would like to become a professional on doing double exposure in the future!

In this assignment, we were challenged to use photoshop and make double exposure portraits. Double exposure is merging two different photos together. During this project, we different videos of how to create a double exposure to help us make our own. We started off by taking pictures of ourselves with cameras and different kinds of lenses so we had something to use for this project. This was a very fun project to do, and it's my favourite so far. It led us to be creative with which photos we wanted to use and to experiment and play around to get an amazing double exposure. This helped me learn more about photoshop and know about the different kinds of projects you can create.

We are Sargent Park Movie Assignment 2019

March 21, 2019 Mr. H 0 Comments

Your assignment is to make a 3-4 minute video about this school. Option 2 is to create 4 30 second commercials that would show the same information but a different way.

  • What is it?
  • Why is it special?
  • What makes Sargent Park.... Sargent Park??

You will have to storyboard your movie, gather still photos and video clips.  We will then use iMovie to put it all together.

You have 4 classes to make and complete this assignment.  You will be in groups. It will be important to share the work load.

4 Classes is not a lot of time.  This will require you to have homework and complete things outside of school time.

We have lots of video and photos on the Vdrive.  It is up to you to create all artistic elements to your movie.

This is an example of what can be done.

Marking rubric to follow.....

Good luck

To start of term 3, the GCT crew has been challenged once again by using photoshop. Upon taking many portraits of ourselves and our friends, we are then required to photoshop these photos, and make them into double exposures. There were 3 videos and ultimately 3 methods to utilize. The method that I found the most helpful was method 2 since it was a fast video and very straightforward. The double exposures represented something about ourselves. Overall, I've learned a lot from it especially being patient.

Portraits are photographs that display an individual's emotion, feeling, or personality. Features of a portrait can be further projected through double exposure where two or more photos are combined to create a new picture. We got to explore more on Adobe and taking portraits and it was fun but yet challenging in some cases. For this project; we had to take portraits, find a background picture that best fits and describes you, and watch the given tutorials to learn about creating double exposures. This project took more time to perfect and understand but in the end, things got easier as there was better understanding and we practiced on a few portraits to get more comfortable in a new setting. This was quite fun and interesting as we got to combine two pictures to make one photo that described more about the character than it can describe each individually. Although it took quite a while to figure out, it was a good opportunity to learn more and I hope to do more with double exposures in the future.

Allyza`s Final Double Exposure

This project was us playing around with double exposure and photoshop. Our teacher was very kind in providing us with videos showing tutorials of different methods into accomplishing this kind of look. A double exposure image is an image where 2 images are merged together to create a completely new and unique image. For this task, we had to take portraits of our selves and merge it with other images such as landscapes or a city skyline. This assignment was very fun and frustrating at the same time, it was fun taking the pictures and having all these ideas but personally, I had little difficulty blending the image and my subject's well into together. Although it wasn't super hard because i had prior knowledge of this application and knew the basic understanding to use layers. This assignment was quite fun because it opened up a new part of photography and was fun to shoot and edit.

This assignment was called Double Exposure. It tested our abilities in photography and editing on photoshop. It required us to know how to use photoshop and use that to our creativity in creating an image. Double Exposure is the corresponding mean in respect of two images, may or may not be identical to each other. As shown above, it has me embedded in another picture which is a playground. I chose this as my background first because it reminds me of when I used to play on them. It also included the bright colours of which seems to be near the warmer times which, no one can deny we all love. In addition to colours, it also has colours of Sargent Park, the school that I attend and take pride in. I also particularly included the small portion of the alphabet because further continuation of when I was a child. Furthermore, I really enjoyed the process in making these Double Exposure portraits and really gave me a headsup that there are more aspects of photography I need to learn. Creating these portraits, and seeing them come together was very exciting, and would definetly do this again.

The topic of this assignment was Double Exposure Portraits. During this assignment we watched multiple videos, and saw multiple picture examples to obtain information we needed to create our own double exposure portrait. We started off by taking portraits of each other using different cameras and camera lenses. This wasn't anything new for us. Creating the double exposure effect was not something that I haven't seen before either. During graphics with Mr. Fly, we were also assigned with a similar assignment. Overall I think that this was one of my favorite assignments so far because, I thought it was super cool for one portrait photo to tell multiple stories that we chose to do.

For this assignment, we got to play around with Photoshop. We worked on double exposure portraits, we take a portrait of us and put it together with another photo to make one cool picture. We made 3 practice ones and 1 final picture. In this type of assignment, I found that using side portraits looked better as it captures the shape of my face. I feel like emotions would have made it look cooler. The process of making my portraits took a lot practice and in my opinion ,it still needs more adjustments. This assignment was probably the most difficult for me because I wasn`t sure how to use Photo shop. Overall I think this assignment was pretty fun.

Portraits are photographs that show emotion, feeling and people as they are. The aspects of a portrait can be further conveyed through double exposure wherein two or more images merge in order to create a completely new picture. We have explored Adobe Photoshop and portrait photography with this assignment which personally, have shown to not be as difficult as expected. The overall process was self-explanatory: take and choose a self portrait, find a background image and follow the given tutorials in order to create a double exposure. It was definitely a long process of getting used to however, in the end, I found that I could almost master the first and perhaps the second tutorial which were definitely the easiest to execute. Despite these, I find that I appeal to the double exposure I have created using the third method wherein I am portrayed as a volcano. In a bizarre way, I find that picture to be symbolic yet humorous which admittedly, I greatly enjoyed while creating these new pictures. I find that creating double exposures is one of the assignments that I enjoyed most throughout the year. I will surely try to develop my skills in Photoshop to create more of these pictures.
