Macro by RJ
Macro photography is one of our assignments. It is usually just extreme -close ups of objects where the size of the subject in the photograph is greater than that of a life size. In this type of photography, most subjects such as small objects and insects are used. Instead of using auto focus, we instead had to use manual focus so that we would have more control over how the picture would turn out. I found out that lenses such as 50mm to 200mm are great lenses, unfortunately i could only get my hands on a 55mm lens. the assignment was quite fun and challenging at the same time.RJ Composition Post
In this GCT assignment we were to master at least 3 composition types and learn new compositions in these images as well as the way to take them and the settings required to take them. This assignment gave us more "freedom" with the camera as we got to use our creativeness to create a photo with the right surroundings, the right subjects, and the right time and place depending on the genre of the photo. I've never really taken black and white photos before but as soon as i started taking them. I was instantly in love with that type of photo as it gives this classic look to the photo. This assignment really tested how well us photographers could manipulate things and subjects to turn out as a good composition photo.Photographing Motion by RJ
My Favorite Motion Photo
Panning:
Something I learned when panning is that the subject and the camera must be moving in coordination or moving at speed where its not too fast or not too slow. I also learned that using slow shutter speeds is not very good for panning as the subject would be blurry and in panning, you want to keep the subject as sharp as you can and the background blurry. When trying to pan, a good shutter speed for slow moving subjects would be around 1/60 but for fast moving subjects, the shutter speed would have to be around 1/125. While taking continuous shots, you should also have a swift left to right or right to left movement. There are other ways you can move the camera but those are those most common movements.Exaggerated motion and stopping motion:
These are my favorite ones because they are very alike and the camera settings needed for these pictures are not very hard to adjust and find out. For stopping motion I had to play around with a lot of shutter speeds but I found out that fast shutter speeds such as 1/250 really capture the motion and make the picture look very sharp and crisp. You can also add a flash to make the picture look sharper. It really depends on the how fast the action you are doing is.That is when you have to adjust the shutter speed to that speed of action.
Capturing Blur in motion:
The biggest thing I learned about capturing blur in motion is that you need to slow down your shutter speed. The reason for movement blur is simply that the amount of time that the shutter of a camera is open is long enough to allow your camera's image sensor to see the movement of your subject. So basically, to capture movement blur in an image, you need to select a longer shutter speed.Egg in Manuel Settings By RJ
In this assignment, we were given an egg and with the egg, we were tasked to take pictures of the egg in different areas and backgrounds. The slight twist was that instead of using the aperture or Av setting, we instead had to use Manuel settings and the main settings that we used in our photos was ISO, Shutter Speed, and F-stop. After this assignment, I had a better understanding of which settings do best with which conditions and what effect they have on the pictures. This brought out more options for me to use when taking different kinds of photos. Overall, this assignment was both fun and challenging and it really tested what I could do with a camera in hand.
Hidden Places at Sargent Park by RJ
We took a stroll around a cold chilly morning with our cameras to take pictures of Fall and Winter combined. Later on we gained access to the outdoor classroom by Mr. Harbeck. This is where we found new camera angles and contrasts for our pictures.
